The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the number of 25-29 year olds participating in the labor force hit a record low, according to CNS News.

At 79.8 percent, the April 2014 participation rate was the lowest for that cohort since 1982 when the Bureau began tracking the data. That year, the participation rate was 80.7 percent.
The bureau defines the labor force participation rate as the percentage of the civilian non-institutional population who participated in the labor force by either working or actively looking for work.

In real numbers, 4,280,000 Americans ages 25 to 29 were not working in April 2014, CNS reported. In January 1982, some 3,851,000 Americans ages 25 to 29 were not in the labor force.

In January 2009, when the Obama administration came into office, 3,769,000 people between 25 and 29 were not in the labor force. That figure has since grown by 511,000, or an increase of 13.6 percent, CNS News reported.
