Texas Mom Finds Son Being Taught That US Brought 9/11 on Itself

A Facebook post of a Texas fifth-grader’s test purportedly blaming the United States for 9/11 has gone viral.

Kara Sands of Corpus Christi was looking over one of her son’s test and was bothered by one of the questions: Why might the United States be a target for terrorism? The correct answer was “Decisions we made in the United States have had negative effects on people elsewhere.”

"I'm not going to justify radical terrorists by saying we did anything to deserve that, over 3,000 people died," the Flour Bluff Independent School District mom told Kristv.com.

Sands posted a picture of the test on her Facebook page on March 7, which has since been shared more than 11,000 times and liked more than 3,000 times.

The test was taken after the fifth-graders watched a 9/11 memorial video in September 2012. After Sands complained to the school on March 7, the principal and teacher reached out to the video distributor. The company responded with an apology the same day, “indicating it was not their intent to convey that the U.S. was to blame for the events of 911,” according to a release sent out by the school district.

“In fact, the video was generated to convey a patriotic message, explaining the events of 911 and why we memorialize it,” the release said.

The test was a part of the school’s CSCOPE curriculum, which is taught in the majority of Texas classrooms, is considered by some to have a pro-Muslim bias.

Sands has had an ongoing issue with the CSCOPE curriculum, citing a Bill of Rights test where food and medicine was listed as a right and not a personal responsibility.

"He got marked wrong, because it is, it is our responsibility for shelter, it’s our responsibility for food for medicine, it’s not the government's responsibility," Sands said.

She also posted a photo on Facebook of a worksheet where fossil fuels and natural gas were portrayed in a negative light.

“Fossil fuels are not good for the environment. They produce carbon dioxide when burned. Many scientists believe this is causing the Earth to get warmer,” according to the worksheet.

The CSCOPE program will be discussed at the next school board meeting on March 28, which Sands plans on attending.
