There is a downside to leftist’s constant portrayal of Trump voters as racist fascists just itching for a chance to impose a China-like totalitarian dictatorship on America.
Unfortunately, the price isn’t being paid by leftists.
It’s being paid by innocent Trump voters.
Recently RedState covered an incident that took place in Jacksonville, Florida. A group of Trump voters were peacefully registering people to vote under a popu-p tent in a Walmart parking lot. No burning crosses, white sheets, flaming Korans or epithet shouting.
Just a group of citizens peacefully participating in republican government.
That all ended abruptly when one of them noticed a van speeding directly for the tent.
The volunteers scrambled to safety just in time as the van careened into the tent and knocked it and the registration table aside. The van driver then stopped, got out of his vehicle, made an obscene gesture before speeding away.
The incident was the latest in a long line of violence directed at Trump supporters.
Violence that is routinely ignored or downplayed by the opposition media.
Had the situation been reversed: Bernie Bros registering voters under a sustainable lean-to destroyed by a pickup-driving Trumpista, the coverage would have been vastly different.
As Stephen Miller pointed out in a series of tweets, "There would be 5 NY Times Op-Eds about Trump’s SOTU speech was the motivation. NBC reporters would be scouring 4Chan. Wash Post front page would read Terror in Jacksonville. Candidates would be gathering for candlelight vigils.
"Jacksonville and #DefeatHate would be top trends on Twitter. Every celebrity with a political following would be making Hitler comparisons. Stelter & Darcy would be blaming some Fox & Friends segment because that’s what Media Matters would be doing. There would be marches," Miller concluded.
Nothing like that happened in the case of Trump voters attacked.
The perpetrator of the attack was unrepentant. After being arrested, 27-year-old Gregory Timm told investigators he intentionally drove into the tent because "someone had to make a stand," according to News 4 Jax.
Naturally, the question becomes what was this violent fool "making a stand" against?
How about almost four years of constant vilification of Donald Trump as a racist, Nazi, threat to the Constitution? And a simultaneous condemnation of Trump supporters as Nazis, racists, and beneath contempt?
Branding a group of people as beyond the pale is the first step toward making them class enemies of all that’s right and good, as the left well knows.
A few national Democratic Party officials condemned the attack but coverage of the incident vanished faster than a Nancy Pelosi wrinkle.
The most bizarre and self–serving response came from the president of the Duval Democratic Party. "The perpetrator of this violent and cowardly act should not be used by either side to politicize or demonize fellow Americans.
"We hope the Duval GOP will join us in asking our fellow citizens to act with dignity, civility and respect for one another during this election cycle and beyond. Acts of violence shouldn’t be politicized."
As RedState aptly pointed out, "In other words how dare the GOP point out that this was a targeted political attack against them."
