RedState.com has an interesting analysis of the anti-Trump blockbuster book that wasn’t. You may recall late last year when Secretary of Defense James Mattis resigned from the Trump administration over Syria policy.
Trump wanted to remove U.S. troops from a fight where no national interests were at stake and Mattis felt that U.S. troops should remain and continue the current policy.
Mattis’ resignation was the honorable course to take. If you can no longer support administration policy, you resign. You don’t remain, like so many of the Deep State ‘resistance,’ and attempt to undermine policy as you leak information designed to put President Trump in the worst possible light.
Then it was announced that Mattis’ would be publishing a book on his time near and at the pinnacle of U.S. power. The Opposition Media connected the dots as only they can. Mattis worked for Trump + Mattis resigned from Trump administration over policy differences = blockbuster tell-all book that once more savages Trump’s reputation.
As RedState put it, “So you got headlines like The Man Who Couldn’t Take It Anymore from The Atlantic and The Man Trump Wishes He Were from The New York Times. You could almost see the foam forming around their collective mouths. They were about to get another tell all they could fluff for weeks, and if that meant rehabilitating a person they used to hate in James Mattis, then that was a price they were willing to pay.”
Media bookers were feverishly attempting to schedule Mattis for appearances where they just knew he would lend military gravitas to their daily sessions of Trump-bashing.
Then the book came out and just as predicted Mattis was unsparing in his criticism of the president. Only, it was the wrong president!
Mattis was criticizing the weak and feckless Obama instead of the ‘Russia-colluding’ Trump.
Mattis takes Obama to task for backing the disastrous Arab Spring, his failure to make Iran pay a price for attempting an assassination on U.S. soil, and Obama’s utter cowardice in failing to enforce his “red line” in Syria.
Coverage for Mattis’ book disappeared from the OpMedia and bookers were no longer interested in scheduling appearances featuring Mattis. The Trump-hating media was so disappointed in Mattis’ failure to live down to their expectations that he became a target for their wrath.
USA Today showcased a story bearing the headline: “James Mattis Promotes a Book that Is Silent About Donald Trump. It’s a Disservice.”
We will close with RedState’s view on that, “Because if there’s anyone who knows about service and duty, it’s some ‘journalist’ desperate for another dose of Trump-bashing.”
