Democrats are more interested in playing politics than investigating Russian meddling in the U.S. election, according to Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C.
Gowdy said Democrats have called for public hearings, despite the information involved being classified.
"The Democrats want this to be a public story; they are much more interested in the politics of it than they are in actually finding out what happened," he told Fox News' "America's Newsroom" on Wednesday.
House Republicans have been looking into Russia's meddling in the U.S. election "for months, and months, and months," contrary to Democrats' claims, Gowdy said.
"The Democrats may be new to this investigation, but the Republicans in the House, as it relates to Russia and their attempts to interfere in our elections, we're not new to it," Gowdy said.
The congressman said he had not seen evidence that showed any Russian meddling into the election was successful.
The New York Times reported Tuesday members of President Donald Trump's campaign had contacts with Russian intelligence, and officials said they had, so far, not seen evidence of cooperation between the Trump team and Russia.
