South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley will seek re-election to a second term, kicking off her campaign this month with three Republican governors, all of them mulling 2016 presidential runs.
She is to make her announcement Aug. 26 at the BI-LO Center in Greenville, with Govs. Rick Perry of Texas, Scott Walker of Wisconsin, and Bobby Jindal of Louisiana,
The State newspaper reports.
Haley is to be flanked by U.S. Sen. Tim Scott, whom she appointed last December to fill the
seat of Jim DeMint. DeMint resigned to head the Heritage Foundation, a Washington, D.C., think-tank.
Haley’s Democratic opponent is expected to be state Sen. Vincent Sheheen, whom she defeated by nearly 60,000 votes in the 2010 governor’s race.
