Privacy, National Security Concerns Over Spy Tool 'Not Mutually Exclusive Goals'

A congressional stalemate that seemingly pits privacy against national security concerns has placed a critical surveillance program in jeopardy as a quickly approaching deadline to reauthorize the spy tool looms.

Lawmakers are facing an April 19 deadline to reauthorize the government's authority to eavesdrop on noncitizens overseas and they are heavily divided when it comes to protecting both national security and individual privacy concerns.
