Rep. Ellmers to Obama: Give Americans ACA Delay for Christmas

Wednesday, 11 December 2013 03:50 PM EST

President Barack Obama should deliver a priceless Christmas present to Americans this holiday season: a one-year delay in the start of the Affordable Care Act, Rep. Renee Ellmers  says.

"The promises that the president made to us — that you could keep your healthcare plan if you like it . . . your doctor if you want to keep your doctor — all of these things now are being proven to be less than truthful," Ellmers, R-N.C., told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"This is not working, and I'm not sure at what point the administration and Kathleen Sebelius and others are going to finally admit this, but boy, it would sure be a nice Christmas present to the American people, especially when they've used so many times holidays to put forward a delay here or a delay there.

"It would be a great Christmas present for a year delay on Obamacare for the American people," she said Wednesday.

Ellmers, a member of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, called Health and Human Services Secretary Sebelius's testimony before her panel on Wednesday "adequate," but criticized her call for an investigation into the healthcare law's troubled rollout, saying it was too late.

"Where have these people been for three-and-a-half years? For three-and-a-half years we have heard how this plan, Obamacare, was going to be the best thing for the American people that any of us could ever imagine," she said.

"It has been a complete and total failure, and now she's just deciding that, oh, gosh, maybe we better go back and look at what happened? Seriously? I don't even know how much more the American people can take . . .

"We know it was a mess-up, and someone's got to take responsibility. Isn't that why you do an investigation? I mean, someone has to take responsibility. She's top of the HHS."
