Republican Congressman Kevin Hern of Oklahoma told Newsmax that President Joe Biden's State of the Union message of economic recovery would not convince Americans.
Joining "Spicer & Co." hours before Biden's speech at 9:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on Tuesday, Hern argued that Americans were still struggling to make ends meet in the current economic situation.

"It's not going to be received very well because American people across this country are having to make tough decisions at their dinner table each evening," Hern stated, citing "the rising cost of food, the rising cost of gasoline," and the cost to heat homes over.
"He's going to spend a lot of time ... talking about how great it is our economy is growing and the jobs," he added. "But the reality is the American people are hurting. They're hurting badly. He needs to be truthful with them."
Hern, who chairs the Republican Study Committee, also said his panel has looked into ways the government could slash wasteful spending ahead of debt ceiling negotiations with congressional Democrats and the Biden administration.
"Seven principles were really talked about," Hern said about his panel's plan given to House Republican leadership, noting the removal of the public health emergency and "pro-growth policies" as crucial aspects.
"We're working right now and with the membership, and we'll have a letter coming out very soon talking about the details of each one of those bullet points," he added.
