Five people have been killed, and police have also killed the shooter in an apparent workplace shooting in a Chicago suburb Friday afternoon.
Five police officer also were injured in the incident, said Aurora Police Chief Kristen Ziman at a Friday night press conference.
The shooter was identified as 45-year-old Gary Martin, believed to be an employee of the facility where the shooting occurred.
Witnesses told local media outlets that the shooter worked there and that he was walking down an aisle and shooting everyone in his path. The incident occurred around 2:40 p.m. ET at the Henry Pratt Company.
Schools and businesses in the area were locked down immediately after the shooting as an armada of local, state, and federal law enforcement swarmed the scene. Agents from the FBI and the ATF were among the responders, along with SWAT teams and mobile police command centers.
Video from the scene showed dozens of ambulances lined up near the factory.
Aurora is roughly 40 miles west of Chicago, which sits along Lake Michigan.
John Probst is an employee of Henry Pratt and told ABC Chicago he saw a male co-worker with a pistol that was outfitted with a laser scope.
"One of the guys was up in the office, he said this person was shootin', and he come running down and he was bleeding pretty bad, and the next thing you know he was walking back and forth. I heard more shots, and we just left the building," said Probst, who indicated there likely were around 30 people inside the building at the time of the incident.
The Aurora Police Department confirmed on Twitter at around 4:30 p.m. ET that the scene was no longer active.
"Active Shooter Incident has been secured. Shooter is no longer a threat to the area. Continued police presence will remain as investigation continues. Parents please contact your local school districts for dismissal plan," the department wrote.
