Former Fox News CEO and chairman Roger Ailes was readying Trish Regan to replace Megyn Kelly before being ousted over the summer, Business Insider reports.
Kelly announced Tuesday that she was leaving Fox for NBC News, a move that shocked many and left a big hole in Fox’ lineup as her show, “The Kelly File,” was the second-rated news show on cable television in 2016 behind “The O’Reilly Factor.”
Regan, a host on Fox Business, was personally prepped by Ailes just in case he needed to fill the 9 p.m. slot. But Ailes was ousted over this past summer amid allegations that he sexually harassed women at the network, including Kelly and Gretchen Carlson.
Fox has not named Kelly’s replacement although Regan’s name has been tossed into the mix along with Shannon Bream, Sandra Smith, Martha MacCallum and Kimberly Guilfoyle.
The Business Insider reports that Regan, 44, is a more conservative personality than Kelly and has expressed views that have her as more agreeable with President-elect Donald Trump. New York Magazine reported that Kelly’s replacement will surely be a woman and, a pro-Trump conservative.
