Report: Zimmerman to be released on bond this weekend

Saturday, 21 April 2012 12:34 PM EDT

George Zimmerman, who is charged with second-degree murder, was granted bond of $150,000 Friday in the death of Trayvon Martin. He's expected to post that bond and be released from jail sometime this weekend, according to a CBS News report.

Once out of jail, Zimmerman’s location while awaiting trial in Sanford, Fla. is expected to remain confidential for his own protection -- as the controversy surrounding his alleged shooting of the unarmed Martin while on neighborhood watch patrol continues to swirl.

The relatively reasonable bond and the overall good result at the hearing may be partly due to Zimmerman's lawyer, Mark O'Mara, who got a state investigator on the stand to admit that the case against Zimmerman had some flaws, CBS reports.

Dan Gilbreath admitted there were questions about the shooting they could not answer.

"Any evidence that conflicts, eyewitnesses, anything that conflicts with the contention that Mr. Martin assaulted first?" O'Mara asked.

"As to who threw the first blow? No," Gilbreath answered.

"Do you know who started the fight?"

"Do I know? No."

On Saturday, lawyers were working out the conditions and security precautions of Zimmerman's release, CBS said.

Zimmerman surprised Trayvon Martin's parents Friday when he  apologized on the witness stand for shooting the teenager.
