President Donald Trump defended his trade war with China and claimed the U.S. tariffs are his “primary” tool for negotiations.

His comments came in a Fox News Radio interview on Thursday.

And he maintained his strategy for dealing with China is working.

They’re coming to the table,” Trump said.

Fox News noted Trump had said after the G-7 summit in France that despite mounting tariffs on both sides, he believes China wants to “make a deal.”

Trump also confirmed that talks are underway on a U.S. troop drawdown in Afghanistan. However, he said the U.S. would keep a “presence” in the country.

“We’re going down to 8,600 (troops) and then we’ll make a determination from there as to what happens,” he said.
