Koch Brothers, Megyn Kelly, Snowden Make Time 100 List

By    |   Thursday, 24 April 2014 08:44 PM EDT

Time magazine's list of the world's 100 most influential people is out — and some of the new faces year are the conservative billionaires Charles and David Koch, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly, NSA secrets leaker Edward Snowden, and potential 2016 Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

They join those from last year such as Pope Francis, President Barack Obama, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, and pop diva Beyoncé, who graces this year's Time 100 cover.

But Beyoncé's husband, the rapper Jay- Z, did not make this year's cut — and both he and Paul were on one of the seven covers Time printed for last year's issue.

Others from last year who didn't make it this time are first lady Michelle Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, White House Chief of Staff Valerie Jarrett, and National Rifle Association CEO Wayne LaPierre.

The Time list breaks down its subjects into seven professions: activism, arts, business, government, religion, sports, and medicine.

Among those also on this year's list include Secretary of State John Kerry, Attorney General Eric Holder and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, who bought The Washington Post last year.

Time also followed its usual pattern of unusual pairings of writers and subjects.

For instance, Putin's is written by former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, the Koch brothers by GOP political strategist Karl Rove, Kerry by Clinton, Obama by Time columnist Joe Klein, and Snowden by former WikiLeaks spokesman Daniel Domscheit-Berg.

Clinton is profiled by Malala Yousafzai, who was shot by the Taliban in 2012 in Pakistan for her outspoken support for girls and education — and she is profiled by Gabrielle Giffords, the former Arizona congresswoman who survived being shot in the head in a 2011 attack in Tucson

Both Yousafzai and Giffords made last year's list.

Paul's profile was penned by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell; Christie did the write-up on Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, Fox News political analyst Brit Hume wrote Kelly's profile, and Jarrett penned the story on actress Kerry Washington.

Astronaut John Glenn profiled another astronaut, Kathryn Sullivan, who is now head of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and another Clinton — Chelsea — wrote about gay NBA player Jason Collins.
