Congress must find a solution to the problems brought about by Obamacare because, at a price tag of $1 trillion, the healthcare law is "fiscally unsustainable," said Sen.-elect Thom Tillis.
"There has to be a solution to replace Obamacare, solve the problem, because it's fiscally unsustainable," the North Carolina Republican told MSNBC's "Morning Joe" on Wednesday. "We need to remember that we're talking about something that's going to add to the debt nearly a trillion dollars."
Obamacare was also going to "threaten future reimbursements for doctors and hospitals" because of the projected $700 billion cuts to Medicare, Tillis said, adding that enrollment numbers also affected its sustainability.
"(The problems) could potentially threaten what you can do for the very people that we're trying to provide a solution to," Tillis said.
Tillis said changes to Obamacare needed to be part of a legislative agenda that addressed numerous problems facing the country, including reforms to tax and regulatory systems, as well as bills to address economic concerns to promote job growth.
Congress would have "tough decisions" to make regarding economic reforms to help "fix the economy and start retiring the debt," Tillis explained, adding that the financial health of the country was also a national security issue.
"We've also got to make sure that we understand these are very dangerous times in the world. And, we have to properly fund and execute strategies to protect our safety and security in the homeland, but also in various places across the globe," he said.
