British Prime Minister Theresa May, who will soon depart her post, denounced President Donald Trump's comments regarding four congresswomen Monday.
Trump's assertion that the freshman members of Congress should "go home" to their countries of heritage was "completely unacceptable," May said through her spokesperson, the BBC reported.
Trump was heavily criticized for his tweets on Sunday, in which he seemed to reference Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y.; Ilhan Omar, D-Minn.; Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass.; and Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich.
"So interesting to see 'Progressive' Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly ... and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run," Trump tweeted.
"Why don't they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how ... it is done."
Of the four aforementioned congresswomen, only Omar was born outside the United States (Somalia). Ocasio-Cortez is a Puerto Rican born in New York City, Pressley is an African-American born in Chicago, and Tlaib is a Palestinian-American born in Detroit.
The women all took office in January and are highly critical of Trump and his administration.
Ocasio-Cortez recently made headlines by making claims that were characterized as outlandish and false regarding facilities at the border that are housing illegal migrants.
