The Hill reported its annual 50 Most Beautiful people lists are no more, bringing to a close a 15-year tradition that became firmly embedded in Washington pop culture.
“It’s been a great run, but all things must come to an end,” The Hill editor-in-chief Bob Cusack said Wednesday.
Each year since 2004, editors have sifted through hundreds of nominations from eligible D.C. hopefuls wanting to make the cut.
The numbers were then reduced to include the 50 most beautiful lawmakers, journalists, congressional staffers, lobbyists and even some in the White House, Cabinet departments and executive agencies.
Since its inception, the list has included the likes of Barack Obama (when he was a senator), Paul Ryan, Rand Paul, and both Melania and Ivanka Trump, The Cut reported.
It wasn’t made exactly clear why The Hill was bringing an end to its 50 Most Beautiful list in this age where everyone is beautiful and gets a trophy just for showing up in life. But in a statement, the publication said:
“While we’ll certainly miss our sunny celebration of delightful Democrats, ravishing Republicans and elegant everything-in-betweens, The Hill wants to thank everyone who helped complete this beautiful chapter.”
Social media was buzzing as senators and readers posted about their despair upon hearing the news.
“You wake up early every day to comb your hair and pick out the brightest shirt/tie combo with your strongest pinstripe suit thinking this is going to be the year ... then this happens,” tweeted Sen. Orrin Hatch.
“So, I’ve been wearing necklaces this year for nothing?” tweeted Democratic Sen. Heidi Heitkamp.
Others were also disheartened by the news.
