Embattled Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, drank from a fountain atop a latrine at a migrant detention center and called out Rep. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., for dishonest "fakenews spin about the border."
King tweeted, with a video showing him drinking from the fountain, saying "not bad":
"No way was @AOC objectively honest in her #FakeNews spin about the border. Click bait for Snowflakes!"
AOC and other Democrats resisting the Trump administration's migrant detention policies at the southern border had cried out Customs and Border Patrol were forcing detainees to drink from toilets. Multiple reports thereafter show it was a drinking fountain attached to the top of a latrine, as is custom with barracks, prisons, and quickly assembled temporary housing.
"I actually went into that cell where it was reported that [migrants] were advised they had to drink out of the toilet," King told an Eagle Grove, Iowa, town hall Wednesday. "I took a drink out of there. And actually pretty good!
"There's these toilets in these prisons [that] are stainless steel. They're built so that they are semi-indestructible by the inmates that are there and in the back where the lid would be on our toilet, that's also sealed. It's not drinking out of the toilet. It's drinking out of the water fountain that's integral with the back of the toilet."
King has been a controversial member of the House, getting removed from his committee assignments for racially insensitive comments.
