The "Expeditionary Targeting Force" that Defense Secretary Ash Carter announced on Tuesday may have fewer than 100 members,
ABC News reports.
The number comes from U.S. military spokesman Col. Steve Warren, who said the force would require the authorized troop cap to be raised from 3,550 to 100 more people.
"A raid is a combat operation, there is no way around that,"
Military Times quoted Warren as telling reporters. "So, yeah, more Americans will be coming here to Iraq, and some of them will be conducting raids inside of both Iraq and Syria."
According to Military Times, Warren said the force will have fewer than 100 "actual real commandos," with the rest being support troops including aviators, intelligence collectors and others.
