Texas Republican Sen. John Cornyn told his colleague, Sen. Cory Booker, to "Get a grip," following rhetoric he espoused attacking injustice in the United States, The Hill reported Saturday.

"Get a grip: Cory Booker" Cornyn, the No. 2 Republican in the Senate, tweeted Friday.

Speaking in New Orleans at the Progressive Netroots Nation annual conference on Friday, Booker, a New Jersey Democrat, waxed a bit poetic at the "normalcy of injustice" in the U.S., claiming things were "savagely wrong" in the country while talking about his broken heart.

"I'm a big believer that if America, if this country hasn't broken your heart, then you don't love her enough," Booker said. "Because there's things that are savagely wrong in this country. There's a normalcy of injustice that we've accepted.

"And I tell you, Newark has gifted me a wisdom that can only come from moons, a sense of purpose that can only come from shared pain," he continued. "It's a city that at times where my heart has been broken, but I've learned that the heart is this interesting organ that, it's the only one that really works even if it's gotten broken."

It marked the second time in a week that Cornyn advised Booker to "Get a grip." On Wednesday Cornyn offered him the same advice over comments he made about Brett Kavanaugh, President Donald Trump's nominee for the Supreme Court.

Booker had railed about Kavanaugh in a press conference the day before, claiming those who didn't fight against Kavanaugh's nomination were "complicit in the evil" and then referred to the Psalm 23.

"We are walking through the valley of the shadow of death. But that doesn't say, 'Though I sit in the valley of the shadow of death' … I am calling on everyone right now who understands what's at stake, who understands who Kavanaugh is. If someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time. He has shown us who he is."

Cornyn, in a speech on the Senate floor, called Booker's comments on Kavanaugh "unhinged" and "detached from reality."

"My advice to some of our friends across the aisle who are engaged in this kind of superheated rhetoric, my advice is get a grip," Cornyn said. "Get a grip."

Booker also on Friday, standing with radical activists from the U.S. Campaign for Palestinian Rights, held a sign calling for the removal of security borders in Israel that read, "From Palestine to Mexico, all the walls have got to go."

Booker's Senate office did not offer a response when questioned if he felt security barriers should be removed that prevent terrorists in the West Bank and Gaza Strip from entering Israel. His office did issue a statement that explained Booker did not know what was written on the sign he was holding.
