Former acting FBI Director Andy McCabe is doing all he can to sell as many copies of his new book, and people hearing his interviews should keep his "playbook" in mind, ex-White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said Wednesday.
"We're learning he wants to sell books," Spicer told Fox News' "America's Newsroom." "This is the (James) Comey playbook. You get fired, you write a book. Make up salacious allegations and do a massive media tour."
Investigators "felt he misled them," said Spicer. "The Inspector General said he lacked candor with them. So this is a gentleman who has a history of misleading investigators, of not being straightforward."
McCabe has denied that he was behind leaks to the press, but Spicer noted that the former FBI leader had been authorized in some cases to speak with the media.
"In his mind, he doesn't view what he said as a leak, because he was authorized to do it under the way that the FBI is structured, in terms of who can talk to the media," said Spicer.
He also commented on the news that Covington Central student Nick Sandmann has filed a $250 million lawsuit against The Washington Post, saying he hopes the teenager wins.
"Every Google search will follow him wherever he goes and the other students who went to Covington because The Post and countless other media institutions didn't do the basics," said Spicer. "Here is example number one why people lost faith in the media."
