With Republicans holding majorities in the House and Senate, and with two-thirds of states having GOP governors, the possibilities are "endless" for what the party can do to return power to Americans, and President-elect Donald Trump's actions will be important, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker said Tuesday.
"If we work together, we can get great things done," Walker, who this week became the chairman of the Republican Governors Association, told MSNBC's "Morning Joe" program.
As to whether Trump is a "Walker conservative," the governor said the proof will come when it's seen how Trump handles his early days.
"I believe putting people like Reince Priebus, working with [House Speaker] Paul Ryan, one of the things that will be helpful is the 'Better Way' plan," said Walker. "I'm fully convinced the House will push that through. My hope is the Senate will. My hope is President Trump will embrace that."
Walker said it doesn't matter whether people call Trump a conservative, as "it's not what you say you are. It's what you do. Actions speak louder than words. It's why we'll have come January, 33, maybe 34 Republican governors, because we put actions above words. That's what the next president and vice president have to do, and I believe they will."
The election of Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as vice-president will also serve as an advantage, Walker said.
"He loves being a governor," said Walker. "He loved that connection. He met with us personally as well as he met as a group of governors. That is, and met with the larger group we were speaking with last night. Mike is going to play a heavy role in terms of being connected to the governors and in turn the states. It's something he passionately believes in."
