Scott Walker: GOP Should Stop Fighting, Focus on 2014

By    |   Wednesday, 21 August 2013 08:50 PM EDT

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker thinks it's great for his fellow Republicans to engage in healthy debate on important issues, but the current spat between libertarian and establishment party members troubles him.

"What concerns me is, a lot of this appears to be moving toward 2016," Walker said Wednesday on Fox Business Network's "Cavuto." The GOP has too many important elections coming up just next year to already be fighting for the 2016 presidential nomination, he said.

In addition to 36 governor's races and maintaining control of the House of Representatives, "We have a very real opportunity, if we don't squander it, to get the United States Senate back in Republican hands again," Walker told host Neil Cavuto.

"That's the important thing. It's time to focus on 2014, and not 2016."

Cavuto repeatedly pressed Walker on his own plans for 2016, but he didn’t bite, saying he is more concerned about the 2014 elections, including his own re-election bid for governor.
