Rove: Zeke Emanuel Unattractive Face of Obamacare

By    |   Monday, 09 December 2013 01:35 PM EST

The White House should stop putting Obamacare architect Zeke Emanuel on television to tout the healthcare law, Karl Rove, former deputy chief of staff to President George W. Bush, said Monday.

"My advice would be stop letting him go on television to be the face of the program, because it ain't a very attractive face and voice," Rove, also a Fox News contributor, told the network's "America's Newsroom."

However, he added, "As an opponent of Obamacare, I hope they keep putting Dr. Emanuel on television!"

Story continues below video.

Emanuel told "Fox News Sunday" when President Barack Obama claimed people could keep the doctors they liked under Obamacare, the president meant they could, if they were willing to pay more. Rove called that statement "ludicrous."

"The president said, 'If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor. Period.' He didn't say, 'You're going to have to pay a lot more to keep your doctor under my plan,'" Rove explained.

"Why Emanuel continues to try to defend it saying, 'Well the president didn't promise you couldn't have unlimited . . . blah, blah, blah.' It was a ridiculous defense. And, not particularly effective," Rove added.

Emanuel, brother of former Obama Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, also said the administration would launch a PR campaign to encourage people to enroll in Obamacare.

After the amount of money and time already spent to promote the program, Rove said Emanuel was "delusional" to think new advertising would help.

"As people have learned more about it, how more enthusiastic do you think they are about it?" Rove asked.
