Rove Criticizes 'Happy Talk' Over Obamacare Website

By    |   Tuesday, 03 December 2013 07:54 AM EST

The claim that Obamacare will be working fine by 2017 is just "happy talk" from the administration and masks deeper problems with the law itself, says Republican political strategist Karl Rove.

Speaking on Fox News' "The Kelly File," Rove criticized comments by former White House political adviser David Plouffe, who said Sunday it may take three years for the Affordable Care Act to work "really well" as more states take over running their own insurance exchange programs.

Rove mocked Plouffe's statement: "We passed this law three years ago, we've completely screwed up its implementation over the past three years, wait three more years and we are going to get it right," he told Megyn Kelly. "Oh, and incidentally, we will be out of office so you can't blame us anymore."

Rove, who engineered George W. Bush's two presidential campaigns, said there were deeper problems with the law other than its flawed website launch.

For example, millions of people are losing their existing insurance plans as a result of the law's new minimum standards, despite being told by Obama that they would be able to keep their current coverage.

"So Mr. Plouffe can go on with his happy talk, but the American people know differently," Rove said. "When the administration talks one way and the reality is being felt a different way, it hurts."

Plouffe said Sunday on ABC's "This Week with George Stephanopoulos" that it might take three years for Obamacare to work the way it was designed, according to Politico.

"It may take until 2017 when this president leaves office. You’re going to see almost every state in this country running their own exchanges eventually and expanding Medicaid, and I think it’ll work really well then,” Plouffe said.
