Special counsel Robert Mueller undermined the public's confidence in his own report on Russia after he hired Democrats and people like Peter Strzok and Lisa Page to his team of investigators, Rep. John Ratcliffe said Wednesday before Attorney General Robert Barr was to take the stand before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
“One thing that's not in dispute is that Bill Barr invited Bob Mueller to review the four-page notice that he sent to Congress," the Texas Republican told Fox News' "Fox and Friends." "Then, after the letter became public, Bob Mueller apparently had a problem with it."
Mueller also had problems with Barr's summary because he was afraid it would undermine public confidence in his conclusions, Ratcliffe added, claiming he tainted his own report when he agreed to investigate President Donald Trump just two days after he interviewed for the position of FBI director and was rejected.
The Washington Post reported Tuesday that Mueller sent a letter and called Barr to let him know that his four-page summary of the report "did not fully capture the context, nature, and substance" of it.
"The minute Bill Barr heard that Bob Mueller had a problem with the contents of it, he wrote another letter to Congress to clarify” and make himself available to answer questions, Ratcliffe said.
Ratcliffe, a member of the House Judiciary Committee, said he will ask Barr during scheduled testimony Thursday more questions about the claim that Trump's 2016 campaign had been spied on.
However, the Justice Department earlier this week said Barr may not testify before the Democratic-controlled House committee because of the panel's question format.
