After Congressional Progressive Caucus Chair Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., appeared to excuse Hamas terrorist rape as a "tool" of war, Hillary Clinton came out in rebuke of war rape as a "crime against humanity" and there are "no justifications and no excuses."
"As you well know, many women and girls were attacked brutally by Hamas on Oct. 7," Clinton told a U.N. meeting in a video Monday. "And they have testified to the gender-based violence that they both experienced and witnessed. As a global community, we must respond to weaponized sexual violence wherever it happens with absolute condemnation. There can be no justifications and no excuses.
"Rape as a weapon of war is a crime against humanity."
Clinton was speaking in an apparent rebuke of Jayapal's attempt to "balance" outrage of Palestinians accused of using rape as "tools" of warfare.
"Such atrocities have no place in any society or any conflict," Clinton said. "Organizations, governments, and individuals who are committed to a better future for women and girls have a responsibility to condemn all violence against women.
"It is outrageous just that some who claim to stand for justice are closing their eyes and their hearts to the victims of Hamas."
Jayapal said rape is "horrific" but said "it happens in war situations."
"Terrorist organizations like Hamas, obviously, are using these as tools," she said Sunday. "However, I think we have to be balanced about bringing in the outrages against Palestinians."
