Daily Beast Editor Curses at Sen. Rand Paul via Twitter

A senior editor at The Daily Beast tweeted a common four-word vulgarity directed at Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul.

The likely Republican presidential hopeful had posted a photo Tuesday on his Twitter account showing himself in the Capitol physician's clinic wearing a white T-shirt and smiling as he was being injected with a booster vaccination for Hepatitis A.

Paul tweeted: "Ironic: Today I am getting my booster vaccine. Wonder how the liberal media will misreport this?"

The Beast's Justin Miller wrote back, "F*** you," Politico reported.

Miller deleted the obscenity not long after posting it, and apologized for it.

"I replied from my personal account to what I felt was spin after Senator Paul said factually incorrect things about vaccines," Miller told Politico. "It would've been better to respond with facts than an obscenity, and I deleted the tweet so it wouldn't reflect on the Beast. I'm sorry for the insult."

A Paul spokesman characterized Miller's behavior as "completely unacceptable for a journalist," according to Politico.

Whether childhood immunizations should be mandatory has become an issue in the 2016 presidential campaign. Paul has emphasized that while he personally thought immunizations were a good idea, parents should have the freedom to make their own decisions.

In an interview with CNBC, he said that there were "many tragic cases of walking, talking normal children who wound up with profound mental disorders after vaccines."

Later, Paul clarified the statement, saying that he thinks all parents should have their children immunized. "I did not say vaccines caused disorders, just that they were temporally related — I did not allege causation."

He told The New York Times that his position on immunization had been incorrectly portrayed in the media. "It just annoys me that I'm being characterized as someone who's against vaccines," he said.
