Prince Andrew, refusing to cooperate with the FBI with regard to his connection to the late Jeffrey Epstein, has hired a powerful attorney who is an expert in fighting extradition, Washington Examiner reported.

"Contrary to Prince Andrew's very public offer to cooperate with our investigation into Epstein's co-conspirators, an offer that was conveyed through press release, Prince Andrew has now completely shut the door on voluntary cooperation," Attorney for the Southern District of New York Geoffrey Berman said, per the report. "Our office is considering its options."

Clare Montgomery and Gary Bloxsome were hired by Prince Andrew. Montgomery defended Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet against extradition after he was arrested in October of 1999 on torture and hostage-taking charges. He was released in March 2000 without facing trial.

Witnesses in the U.S. Virgin Islands allege Andrew groped girls "right out in the open" on Epstein's private island estate, Virgin Islands Attorney General Denise George told the Examiner.

Epstein died in a prison suicide last year, but prosecutors continue to pursue allegations tied to those connected to the former hedge fund billionaire.

Andrew had admitted staying connected to Epstein after allegations of pedophilia and sexual abuse was a mistake.

"The problem was the fact that once he had been convicted, I stayed with him," Andrew had said in November, per the report. "And that's the bit that, as it were, I kick myself for on a daily basis, because it was not something that was becoming of a member of the royal family.

"We try and uphold the highest standards and practices, and I let the side down, simple as that."
