Rep. Peter King gave President Donald Trump's month-old administration qualified praise, saying "unforced errors" have blunted his achievements.

In an interview to air Sunday with radio host John Catsimatidis on "The Cats Roundtable," the New York Republican declared "the American people agree with what he wants to do."

"I agree with 90 percent of what he's doing," King said. "But then maybe slow down on some of the tweets and just focus on getting the job done."

King said Americans "want stronger anti-terrorism measures; they want to have more secure borders; they want lower taxes; they want to rebuild the infrastructure."

The remarks were posted ahead of the airing by The Hill.

King also asserted a key Trump goal – to repeal and replace Obamacare – will have to be gradual.

"What we want to do is make sure we transition for a number of years so those people [insured under the Affordable Care Act's Medicaid expansion] won't be affected, and then they will be able to smoothly transition into a new system," he said.

"If not, we could have passed something overnight."
