Manafort Says Mueller Hasn't Proven That He Lied to Prosecutors

Paul Manafort didn’t lie to investigators working for Special Counsel Robert Mueller, which would have breached his agreement to cooperate with them after pleading guilty to avoid trial, his lawyers told the Washington federal judge who has been weighing evidence to determine whether he warrants a heavier sentence.

Manafort’s lawyers wrote in a part of a memo filed hours before a sealed hearing Wednesday to determine whether he did lie to the government -- as Mueller’s team claims -- that the special counsel “has not sustained its burden of proof to establish that Mr. Manafort lied during his interviews or grand jury appearances,” according to the filing.
