Poll: 48 Percent Don't Want Obamacare Repealed

Americans do not want to repeal Obamacare, preferring instead to spend more on its implementation or wait to see if changes are needed later, according to a new poll.

Forty-eight percent of 1,000 people surveyed said it was important for Congress to "keep the program to expand coverage because it's important to reduce the number of Americans without health insurance," according to the latest United Technologies-National Journal Congressional Connection Poll.

By contrast, 42 percent responded that "Congress should repeal the program to expand coverage because the government can't afford it at a time of large budget deficits," the National Journal reports.

But the White House's recent one-year delay in the employer mandate had respondents convinced that the implementation of Obamacare was going poorly, the National Journal reports.

Fifty-one percent of those surveyed said the delay was a sign the Obama administration was ill-prepared for a law already facing mounting problems. That compared with only 38 percent who responded that the White House was ready to move forward on Obamacare.

The telephone poll was conducted July 18-21.
