Pat Buchanan: Obamacare Rollout 'Albatross' for Dems in 2014 Elections

The tea party will be vindicated for voting against Obamacare and trying to stop its implementation for a year, Pat Buchanan predicts, while the president's party will suffer in the 2014 midterm elections.

"I think you could move into 2014 with this thing being an albatross around the neck of the president of the United States," Buchanan said Thursday on Fox News Channel's "On the Record."

Democrats and some members of the media, including CNN's Wolf Blitzer and Tom Foreman, have stressed that the Obamacare website is not Obamacare itself. But Republicans such as Buchanan have expressed fears the glitch-filled HealthCare.gov is a harbinger of how the program as a whole will work.

"Is it just this website, or is it the whole program that is really a lemon?" Buchanan said.

ABC News Political Director Rick Klein also appeared on the program, saying that Democrats who were asked to pitch the program are now asking the White House how they can expect to tell their constituents to pay a fine for not buying insurance when it is difficult or impossible to do so.

"They feel a little hung out to dry," Klein said.
