Forbes: Dozens of Deadlines Missed in Obamacare Implementation

By    |   Monday, 19 August 2013 08:42 AM EDT

The Obama administration has missed half of its own deadlines in the implementation of the president's signature healthcare law — including new privacy rules — due to bureaucratic mismanagement or lack of funding.

The government had 82 deadlines to meet in the three years since the law's passage, but has either delayed or ignored the mandates, reports Forbes, which based its findings on a Congressional Research Service report.

Only 32 deadlines — 39 percent — of the deadlines were met.

The congressional agency says that of 50 deadlines missed, key rules the administration failed to enact included actions to safeguard the privacy of medical records.

At least nine of the missed deadlines are due to Congress refusing to appropriate taxpayer dollars to enact certain parts of Obamacare, which is expected to cost $1.9 trillion over the next decade.

Previous reports of significant delays include the employer mandate, and rules that confirm eligibility in the health care program.

Most recently, Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi claimed confidential information handed over to new federal employees to register people for Obamacare benefits are at risk of being used for identity theft.
