Rabbi Boteach: New York Times Censored Our Anti-Radical Islam Ad

By    |   Sunday, 31 August 2014 10:13 PM EDT

The New York Times has censored an advertisement taken out by the pro-Jewish group This World: The Values Network, its executive director, Rabbi Shmuley Boteach complains in an opinion piece for Breitbart.

The ad, shows the picture of a knife-wielding jihadist with slain American journalist James Foley just before his execution, alongside a photo of Hamas terrorists and the caption "This is the face of radical Islam."

Boteach-ad.jpgThe Times, though, would not run the ad this Tuesday unless the Foley picture was replaced with one in which his murderer is not holding a knife, claimed Boteach in his opinion piece.

Meanwhile, Boteach pointed out that in an Aug. 20 Times editorial, writers complained about a decision by Federal District Court Judge Alvin Hellerstein that forces the Obama administration to explain its refusal to release 2,000 photos documenting abuses by the American military and personnel in Iraq and Afghanistan.

" 'America reinforces its values and thus its security by being transparent about even the worst abuses of those values, not by hiding the evidence deep in a file drawer,' " Boteach quotes the Times editorial. "[This] begs the question of why The New York Times forced us to remove a photograph of a hooded ISIS executioner holding a knife while standing by American journalist James Foley."

Boteach said his organization, which promotes Jewish values and champions the nation of Israel, wants to know why The Times would condemn the government, while suppressing
the "horrors of the world's most monstrous terror organization that decapitates Americans."

However, he noted, The New York Times had a better response than the Los Angeles Times, which also demanded that the photo depicting the Hamas terrorists, shown standing with hooded "collaborators" they planned to execute, be removed.

This is not the first time a major newspaper has refused an ad from Boteach's organization. Earlier this month, The Times of London came under attack for refusing to run an advertisement concerning the Gaza conflict, reports The Guardian, , causing Boteach's organization to accuse the newspaper of being part of a British media that is "infamously skewed against Israel."

That ad, containing a statement written by Nobel prize-winning author Elie Wiesel and Boteach, called on President Barack Obama and other leaders to "condemn Hamas' use of children as human shields," calling the practice "child sacrifice."

That ad ran in The Guardian and several American newspapers, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Wall Street Journal, which is published by the London Time's owner News Corp.

A comment was not available about why The New York Times and the Los Angeles Times rejected the organization's ISIS ad without edits to its photography.
