Navy Confirms Two Dead in Training Jet Crash

The Navy confirmed Monday that two people were killed in a training jet crash in Tennessee over the weekend.

The T-45 training aircraft, which has been the subject of controversy in recent months regarding its safety, went down in east Tennessee Sunday. Two people were on board — a pilot and a student.

Both died in the crash, which involved personnel from Training Squadron Seven of Training Air Wing One, based at Naval Air Station Meridian, Mississippi.

Training Air Wing One is one of five training wings that fall under the Chief of Naval Air Training, the Navy said in a news release.

Fox News reported Sunday that the jet went down in the Cherokee National Forest in Monroe County, Tennessee.

In April, more than 100 Navy instructor pilots ceased flying the T-45 jets out of concerns that the oxygen systems were malfunctioning. The problem caused pilots to experience histotoxic hypoxia, which leads to disorientation.
