White House Director of Trade and Manufacturing Policy Peter Navarro Friday refused to confirm or deny if he "personally" raised investigating former Vice President Joe Biden or his son Hunter with Chinese officials, calling the growing impeachment inquiry on President Donald Trump "witch hunt part two."
"Here's the thing, I will never talk about what happens inside the White House," Navarro told CNN's Jim Sciutto, accusing him of staging an interrogation instead of an interview. "Okay? Not confirm or deny, Because that's the slippery slope."
The "witch hunt" he further argued, is hurting Americans.
"We have a 3.5% unemployment rate," he told Sciutto. Impeach that."
He also turned the questions back to Sciutto.
"Let me ask you this," Navarro said. "How is it that a U.S. president, going forward, is ever going to be able to have a candid conversation with a foreign leader about any sensitive matter, if the jackals are always wanting to get things revealed? You guys want every transcript revealed of everything."
CNN reported Thursday that while talking to China's President Xi Jinping on June 18, President Donald Trump brought up Biden's prospects, as well as those of Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass.
CNN first reported on Thursday that during a phone call with China's Xi Jinping on June 18, President Donald Trump raised Biden's political prospects as well as those of Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, according to two people familiar with the discussion. The call's recording was stored in the same high-security system used to store the recording of the call between Trump and Ukraine's President that helped to spark a whistleblower complaint leading to the House Democrats' impeachment inquiry.
Navarro also slammed the network's reporting, including CNN's reporting and use of "anonymous sources," and slammed the growing Ukraine-China story as "witch-hunt part 2."
"I've been in this town here for three years," said Navarro. "We went through witch hunt part one, for two-and-a-half years. (Rep.) Adam Schiff, sociopath looked you in the eye and the American people in the eye, saying there was irrefutable evidence of the Russia hoax. And now we have a whistleblower."
