Iran Says It Uncovers Second Cyber Attack

Monday, 25 April 2011 09:19 AM EDT

TEHRAN, Iran — A senior Iranian military official investigating a mysterious computer worm targeting Iran's nuclear facilities says a second computer virus has hit the country.

Gholam Reza Jalali, the head of a military unit in charge of combatting sabotage, is quoted Monday by the semiofficial Mehr news agency as saying experts are still studying the new virus, which he called "stars."

Jalali didn't provide any details on the virus, or say whether it had attacked Iran's nuclear program.

Iran has acknowledged Stuxnet affected a limited number of centrifuges at its main uranium enrichment facility in Natanz, but has said its scientists discovered and neutralized the malware before it could cause serious damage.
