Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Wednesday argued against criticism the GOP has not made progress for the conservative cause since voters handed them control of the Senate in 2014.
"If anybody has any doubts about whether changing the Senate from the Democratic majority to the Republican majority made a difference, I have two words for them: Supreme Court," McConnell said Wednesday on
Fox News Channel's "Special Report."
"And that's the decision that makes the difference?" anchor Bret Baier asked.
"Absolutely," McConnell answered.
Republican voters have told exit polls during this year's primary process they are gravitating toward outsiders Donald Trump and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz precisely because the party has failed them time and again over promises to repeal Obamacare and other issues — even after voters have handed them both houses of Congress.
McConnell said Republicans are indeed using that political power and have promised to deny President Barack Obama a Supreme Court nominee in his final months in office. Obama on Wednesday nominated U.S. Court of Appeals Court Judge Merrick Garland to replace the recently deceased conservative Justice Antonin Scalia.
