A candidate running for state representative in Minnesota dropped the n-word in a campaign ad, saying, "I wanna be your n*****."
Kyle Greene claims black, white and Cherokee Indian heritage.
"I wanna be your state representative, I wanna be your public servant, and I wanna be your n*****," Independent candidate Greene says to end the ad, pointing to the camera as he said the slur.
Greene said he used the word because he wants people to focus on the "real issues at hand," the Minnesota Star-Tribune reports.
"We need to unify as a society, and we need to stop dealing with trivial matters," Greene told the Star Tribune. "The word ... is part of the American history, regardless of the race. ... It’s part of my history being African-American, white and Cherokee Indian."
Greene lives on a farm with his wife and six children, he wrote on his campaign website, which also features the ad.
"We take pride in teaching our children morals, respect for others and good work ethics, not only on our farm, but in life itself," Greene says on his website.
