An 8-year-old girl’s parody videos of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., have come to an end as a result of death threats, Fox News is reporting.
Ava Martinez’s videos poked fun at Ocasio-Cortez and collected millions of views on social media, according to the news network. Martinez was known as “Mini AOC.”
But her family announced Wednesday she would no longer impersonate Ocasio-Cortez and all videos and photos would be removed.
A tweet, from a Twitter account believed to belong to her stepfather Salvatore Schachter, said: “ Ava will not being doing any more MINI AOC content. The Left's Harassment and death threats have gone too far for our family. We have been getting calls on our personal phone numbers. For our safety and for our child's safety, we deleted all Mini AOC accounts”.
He told Fox News the reaction to the “Mini AOC” videos had been positive, but the negativity was just too much after she re-enacted photos Ocasio-Cortez had taken at the Mexican border last year.
He described the negative comments as “increasingly personal, dark and dangerous.”
"She's disappointed at not doing 'Mini AOC' going forward, but we explained that this is for the best and she's okay with it," Schachter said.
