Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is reportedly meeting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu next week in Brazil to talk about President Donald Trump's controversial decision to pull U.S. forces out of Syria.

Writing for Axios, Barack Ravid of Israel's Channel 10 news reported the pair will meet when both are in Brazil for the inauguration of conservative Jair Bolsonaro.

According to Ravid's report, Israel is "very concerned" the withdrawal will encourage Iran to continue its military buildup in Syria.

Netanyahu spoke twice to Trump last week about the surprise pullout, but next week's sitdown will be the first high-level meeting between U.S. officials and Israeli since Trump announced the move, Ravid reported.

In a weekly cabinet meeting Sunday, the prime minister declared the decision will not change the Israeli policy of acting militarily against the Iranian presence in Syria, Ravid reported.

He also rejected claims the pullout was a signal Trump was not taking Israel's security concerns into account, insisting cooperation with United States remains the same, Ravid reported.

According to Ravid, Israel Defense Forces chief of staff major general Gadi Eizenkot, in a speech Sunday, said Trump's decision is "a major development" but cautioned from "overestimating its consequences" regarding Israel.

The IDF will continue to operate against Iranian threats in Syria, Einzekot said, Ravid reported.
