Secretary of State Mike Pompeo last week dismissed concerns about climate change, saying that “societies reorganize, we move to different places, we develop technology and innovation.”

The Washington Times interviewed Pompeo on Friday, asking him about whether he thought climate change is man-made, and his ideas for possible solutions. Pompeo waved off questions about the Trump Administration’s action on the climate, which he said, “always changes,” and said, “we’ll fix it by the way we organize.” The secretary did not mention pollution caused by humans.

“There’s lots of ways that one can address [it],” he added. “If waters rise — I was just in the Netherlands, all below sea level, right? Living a wonderful, thriving economic situation. The world will be successful. I’m convinced. We will figure out responses to this that address these issues in important and fundamental ways.”

Pompeo appeared to praise rising sea levels as good for business during a speech at an international summit on environmental protection last May, saying that “Steady reductions in sea ice are opening new passageways and new opportunities for trade. This could potentially slash the time it takes to travel between Asia and the West by as much as 20 days.”

The secretary said in an interview with ABC News that same month, “This administration is focused on doing the things that will allow our economy to grow. Countries with high per capita GDP always have cleaner air [and] safer drinking water.”
