Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee says he does not see how former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will escape the growing scandal around her use of a private email server while she was in office.
In an interview Thursday on
Fox News' "America's Newsroom," Huckabee said that the news surrounding Clinton, the Democrats' front-runner and presumed presidential candidate, was quickly spiraling downward.
"This has gone from a political issue to a legal one," he said. "Once you cross that Rubicon it is hard to go back.
"If David Petraeus was convicted of giving access just to some classified files, and she has had top secret files that have been accessed through her private server, this is a serious legal issue," Huckabee said. "She can scream all she wants about how it is just a matter of the right wing attacking her.
"No, this is about her violation of the law."
Clinton on Wednesday turned over to the FBI the private email server she used while serving as the nation's top diplomat amid news reports that
two of the seven classified emails found there so far had been marked "Top Secret."
The government is treating her with kid gloves, letting her hand in the server rather than — like most in a similar situation — be subject to "a raid at midnight to get those servers," said Huckabee. "I think this is far, far from over."
