Michael Reagan has been in the public eye for decades in talk radio and as a New York Times best-selling author, political commentator, philanthropist, and speaker.
The oldest son of former President Ronald Reagan and the Academy Award-winning actress Jane Wyman, the 72-year-old is also a husband and father of two grown children.
Reagan’s radio show and speaking efforts have been dedicated to conservative issues and his father’s legacy as president, as well as adoption and faith.
A Newsmax Insider with his column "The Gipper's Corner," he also appears often as a sought-after voice on Newsmax TV.
Here, the president's son sits down with Newsmax to shed light on his father's legacy and to discuss his own opinions of the media, the latest scandals in Hollywood, and more.
Newsmax: What is your main focus in public life these days?
Michael Reagan: Being a voice for abused children and those who are in foster care. I have a golf tournament I put on for City Impact in Ventura County that helps children at risk. This will be the eighth year.
NM: Has your dad ever appeared in any of your dreams and, if so, what is he telling you?
MR: No, I have never had a dream that included my father.
NM: You are happily married to Colleen, your wife of more than 40 years. What’s the secret to a great marriage?
MR: Never stop dating and remembering why you fell in love. We celebrate by toasting our marriage everyday. Also, never win an argument in HER house . . .
NM: For years you were one the nation’s top talk radio hosts. How do you see the industry today?
MR: When I started in TR a very wise program director told me that as long as I was having fun, so would my audience, but when I stopped having fun, to quit. I quit in 2009. TR used to be fun; now it seems too angry.
NM: Whom do you respect most in the media?
MR: People without an agenda and he died — Paul Harvey.
NM: The media, including Hollywood, have come under a cloud after Harvey Weinstein. As the son of two Hollywood legends [actress Jane Wyman and President Ronald Reagan], what do you think happened?
MR: Sexual harassment has been going on in Hollywood forever ("casting couch"). What happened was someone finally had enough and yelled "fire!" I just laugh at those who pretend to be shocked by it all.
NM: What is your favorite pastime these days?
MR: My favorite pastime is spending time with my family, playing golf, and traveling with Colleen all over the world.
NM: Tell us why the USS Reagan is so important to you.
MR: We have a foundation, ReaganLegacyFoundation.org, which provides scholarships to those who serve on the USS Reagan. I have so much pride in those who serve and I am the closest they will ever get to Ronald Reagan. It is an honor for me to visit her. She is now stationed in Japan keeping an eye on North Korea.
NM: What is your favorite restaurant in Los Angeles?
MR: Los Angeles is the largest multicultural city in the world and, because of that, there are hundreds of ethnic restaurants to choose from. Therefore, it's hard to pick a favorite. I do love Italian Food.
NM: You penned a book in 2016 called "Lessons My Father Taught Me." What lesson tops the list?
MR: Forgiveness. Sometimes you also need to forgive yourself as well as others.
NM: If we logged-in to Netflix, what old film by your mom and dad should we watch?
MR: Mom . . . "Johnny Belinda" where she received the Academy Award for Best Actress. My father . . . "Knute Rockne, All American" where he played George Gipp, hence his nickname "The Gipper." They met while filming the movie "Tugboat Annie."
