Gen. Michael Hayden: Need Long-Term ISIS Strategy, Not Hearing It at Convention

By    |   Wednesday, 20 July 2016 08:27 PM EDT

Retired Air Force Gen. Michael Hayden told Newsmax TV on Wednesday that America needs to "turn kinetic and kill those who are about to come kill us" in order to destroy the Islamic State and other terrorists.

"But we also need deeper, longer-term approaches," Hayden, who directed both the CIA and the National Security Agency, told "The Hard Line" host Ed Berliner in an interview.

The myriad issues facing the Middle East dictates that the United States and other allies adopt a long-term approach to addressing broader concerns in the region — and Hayden told Berliner that he is not hearing that from speakers at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland this week.

"Frankly, to promise that I can do this quickly and be done with it is to misunderstand deeply the nature of the problem — and that, above all things, makes me the most nervous of all."
