Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg could still end up running for president, Axios is reporting.
Bloomberg had announced just weeks ago that he would not seek the Democratic nomination. He had noted the difficulty of winning the “nomination in such a crowded field” of candidates, The Washington Post reported.
"He's a data guy," one source told Axios. "He couldn't get the math to work.”
But should former Vice President Joe Biden decide against running, it could push Bloomberg to reconsider. Biden has been accused by two women of inappropriate displays of affection.
Axios noted that if Bloomberg enters the race, he could offer a more moderate voice in a campaign dominated by liberal idealism so far.
And the website reported the billionaire Bloomberg could spend unlimited funds to tout that no one in the race has done more to promote actions on guns and the climate.
But even if Bloomberg does reconsider entering the race, he could still reach the conclusion that it is just not worth it, Axios pointed out.
