A statement Melania Trump released to clarify her immigration status did little to quell the issue raised by Politico earlier Thursday,
the website reported.
At issue is the year — 1996.
However, Politico's reporting showed Trump came from Slovenia and was in the U.S., working, modeling and living in 1995.
Further,
Politico raised questions about the type of visa she had. Though claiming to have H-1B work visa, Trump was quoted several times saying she would periodically go back to Slovenia to renew her visa, Politico reported.
However, the H-1B visas are usually valid for three years and could be extended to six, according to the report, which would have negated her need to go back to Slovenia to renew.
Rather, those periodic renewals described by Trump are more consistent with someone traveling on a B-1 Temporary Business Visitor or B-2 Tourist Visa, which typically last about six months and do not permit employment, Politico reported.
"Melania followed all applicable laws and is now a proud citizen of the United States," Trump spokeswoman Hope Hicks wrote to Politico.
