The claims made by former acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe about why he launched the investigation into President Donald Trump and Russia are "disturbing" and raise many questions, Rep. Mac Thornberry said Thursday.

"Obviously it's disturbing on a couple of levels," the Texas Republican told Fox News' "America's Newsroom." "It contradicts information we've heard before and secondly, there has been concern about what was happening in the Justice Department and the FBI In recent months."

The report also leads to more questions, and there will need to be further investigation about what was happening and what the intentions were with the Justice Department and the FBI, said Thornberry.

In addition to talking about the investigation, McCabe told CBS News that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein really did consider wearing a wire in meetings with Trump. The Justice Department had previously said the offer by Rosenstein had been made sarcastically.

Thornberry also commented on the pending government funding bill, saying that while he's not excited about it, he'll probably vote for it unless there are surprises uncovered.

"You have to go through these things and make sure something unexpected was not snuck in," the

Texas Republican told Fox News' "America's Newsroom." "A lot of this has passed before, but you want to look for surprises. You want to make sure you know what's in there. I think it's a deal most people aren't very happy with. The question is, is it good enough to move forward?"
