Rep. Liz Cheney slammed congressional Democrats for not condemning anti-Israel remarks made by Reps. Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar, saying they have an obligation to stop anti-Semitism from rising.
“We have a situation today where those of us who are elected officials and particularly elected officials in the House of Representative where this anti-Semitism is rising within our body have an obligation to stand up and to stop it,” the Wyoming Republican said on “Fox & Friends," singling out House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Majority Leader Steny Hoyer for demanding President Donald Trump and Republicans apologize for comments they made about Tlaib.
“I’m sorry that there are so many anti-Semitic members of the House Democratic caucus,” Cheney added. "We went yesterday from a situation where the Democratic leadership in the House had sort of been enabling this anti-Semitism by their silence. Yesterday was different.”
Tlaib, D-Mich., has come under fire for her comments about the Holocaust and her Palestinian ancestors.
“There is just no context in which it is okay to say that a calming feeling comes over you when you think about the Holocaust," Cheney said about Tlaib's comments. "It’s sickening.”
She also accused Tlaib of talking about a view of history that is "based on lies, exactly the kind of anti-Semitic lies that are spread to delegitimize the state of Israel...the Palestinian leadership during World War II actually worked with Adolf Hitler. So it is really gone beyond the pale now with the leadership and house actually defending this kind of thing."
